CAP received a call Wednesday morning September 7th. The City of Cleveland was preparing to take in 300-400 evacuees from the New Orleans area and temporarily house them in the Convention Center.

These people would need Internet access so they could check on the status of loved ones, search for family and check/send e-mail.

Though it was a work day, several CAP volunteers dropped everything and began to work on systems for the lab. By late that afternoon, 25 PCs were built and configured (along with network hubs, configuration, etc.) to populate the lab.

The systems were loaded into volunteer's cars when we got the call - the planes were not bringing the people!

The final results of the move to the Convention Center are not known yet but Thursday AM, CAP volunteers finished bringing down systems to the Lab.

Along with Thomson Hine (providing laptops, wifi routers, expertise), SBC (providing DSL connection) and Digital Vision (Bill Callahan coordination), we now have a 40 node network at the Convention Center ready to assist the evacuees when they arrive.

Thanks to Krissy Blythe and Amy Messano from local Microsoft offices for providing 25 copies of Windows XP to be used for the lab.
